[G]roundwork NE & Cumbria is thanking its supporters after its second annual ball raised more than £10,000, which will be used to help fund community projects.

The ball, held at luxury hotel Ramside Hall in Durham, had a Casino Royale theme with guests dressed to impress to enjoy a three course meal, table games and casino-style games, including blackjack and roulette.

Guests and sponsors of the event help Groundwork to surpass the amount raised at last year’s Masquerade Ball, which saw around £7,500 going to good causes.

The money raised at the event will be added to Groundwork’s community chest, which can be accessed by the charity’s project managers to fund activities that will have a direct positive impact on service users.

The Community Chest was created in 2015 to celebrate Groundwork’s 30th anniversary of operating in the North East. Previously, it has been used to fund additional fitness and wellbeing sessions, and support community groups to celebrate their activities or achievements.

Kate Culverhouse, Chief Executive of Groundwork North East & Cumbria, said: “I am very pleased with the success of our Casino Royale Ball. It is only our second year hosting a fundraising event of this scale and I have been bowled over by the support we have received from businesses, other organisations and individuals. A special thanks must go to our team members, who have done a fantastic job coordinating the evening alongside their day-to-day tasks.

“The money raised will be used to add extra value to the projects already being delivered by our amazing team of staff and volunteers in order to support our aims of ensuring the people of the North East and Cumbria have the best prospects and way of living as possible.”
