Carlisle Crown Court

[A] WHITEHAVEN man who sexually assaulted a woman in a town takeaway has been sentenced by a judge.

Kane Johnson’s illegal interaction at the Tangier Street premises was captured on CCTV. Carlisle Crown Court heard his victim reacted “in no uncertain terms” to the groping – which included open palm touching – throwing her shoes and handbag at him.

During the resulting melee, 24-year-old Johnson was also said to have punched the woman in the chin, causing her to fall to the floor and leaving her with a grazed arm and sore jaw. The incident was said to have had a “negative” impact on her.

Johnson, of Meadow Road, Mirehouse, Whitehaven, was sentenced today (FRI) having previously pleaded guilty to a sexual assault charge. He was said to be remorseful and wished to apologise to the female.

He was given a three-year community order, must complete a sex offender treatment course, and has to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Passing sentence, the Honourable Mr Justice Turner told Johnson: “This was a disgraceful piece of conduct on your part.”
