Carlisle Cathedral graduation ceremony Wednesday 22 November.

[E]ven the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of students celebrating “the proudest day of their lives” at the University of Cumbria’s graduation ceremony.

The first of eight ceremonies held in the magnificent surroundings of Carlisle Cathedral saw students from all over the north west converge to hear Vice Chancellor Prof Julie Mennell pay tribute to them, their friends and family for the support offered over the years.

The Carlisle Partnership has encouraged members to contribute to the buzz brought to the city by over a thousand students and two thousand supporters and restaurants by providing discounts and special offers to visitors.

The next generation of teachers were among the first students to graduate today (Wednesday) with graduates from across the north west of England and Northern Ireland among those passing through. Schools from Kendal to Cockermouth, Bolton to Broughton were also represented demonstrating the appeal of the Institute of Education.

Other students from the world of health, including social work, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and management also graduated today.

Tomorrow more students of nursing, law along with international students from the popular link with the Robert Kennedy College will be in Carlisle while on Friday students from the Institute of the Arts will receive their degrees and awards.
