[W]alkers, cyclists and horse riders are being advised by the Lake District National Park to avoid a popular route for the return of the annual Grizedale Stages Rally and its 30th anniversary.

Over 4000 spectators are expected at the event on Saturday 2 December to watch high-powered cars competing on woodland trails and tracks.

Footpaths, bridleways and trails between Coniston Water and the Hawkshead to Satterthwaite road will be closed for one day during the event to avoid any potential conflicts between walkers and drivers. The Forestry Commission will also be closing permitted paths, cycle routes and open access land around the route. However, routes on the east side of the Hawkshead to Satterthwaite road will remain open as usual. There will also be closures in the woodlands at Broughton Moor and Chapel House Plantation. All closed paths and tracks will be clearly sign posted.

LDNP Rights of Way and Access Assistant, Sarah Blakemore said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause. Keeping the public safe and well informed is essential for us and our partners. We aim to re-open all routes as quickly as possible once the event has come to a close.”

Further details of the closures are available here – http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/thingstodo/rowupdates/rowclosures
