[T]he Institute of Directors (IoD) has launched its annual search for inspiring and pioneering business leaders from all corners of the North West region to enter into the 2018 North West Director of the Year Awards.

The awards recognise and celebrate the region’s outstanding business community, celebrating entrants from across the North West including Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Cumbria; it honours businesses ranging from startups, to family businesses to organisations in the public and third sectors.

Regional director for the IoD, Claire Ebrey said: “Year on year, we see an increase in entries which is a real testament to the high-quality leadership talent that we have here in the North West. We are so proud that many of our winners have gone on to take the top accolade in the national final, further demonstrating how the region is more than punching above its weight when it comes to paving the way in business and commerce in the UK.”

Chris Ward, Chair of the IoD in Cumbria, added: “Last year the county had two winners in Ross McMahon, Kendal Nutricare, and Sue Howorth, Coulson Associates. It’s a great opportunity to showcase Cumbria’s talent so I’d like to see a strong Cumbrian contingent represented at the awards from different sectors, sizes of business and demographics.

Sue Howorth, Director of Coulson Associates

Sue Howorth, Director at Cumbria’s Coulson Associates Ltd won the regional director of the year (small company category) at last year’s North West awards. Reflecting on the experience, she said: “It was such an honour and delight to win the NW IOD Director of the year award, a real testament to all that the team and I have achieved in recent years, as well as a fantastic accolade for me personally.

“The great thing for me is that it has allowed me to reflect and evaluate the future of the business and gave me the motivation and confidence to implement the changes I wanted to make to develop and evolve myself and the business going forward.”

Entries for the 2018 Director of the Year awards can be made at http://www.iodawards.com/northwest with nominations closing at the beginning of February.
