[A]xe Throwing is the newest and sharpest leisure activity in Cumbria.
Lumber Lounge, situated inside the former Mitchell Dryers Building in Denton Holme, Carlisle, CA2 5GX, opened in the middle of December last year.
Owner James Tattersall, 28, who attended William Howard School in Brampton, has recently returned to his home near Carlisle after living in Canada for five years. While he was in Canada James worked on farms in Saskatchewan and on ski slopes in the Rockies.
James says, “Axe throwing is very popular in Canada and I know it will appeal to people here too. It’s a great activity to relieve the stresses of everyday life. The scoring system creates an element of competition within a safe and relaxing environment. There are comfortable sofas for customers to use between throws but people get pretty excited and most want to be on their feet urging on their opponents!”
Lumber Lounge is open to anyone over 18 years of age. Walk in customers, advance bookings and private hire are all welcome.
Opening hours are Monday – Friday: 5pm – 10pm, Saturday and Sunday 2pm – 10pm and at other times by arrangement. Admission is £15 per person, per hour.
Gift vouchers are available. Alcohol is not allowed. There are only three other urban axe throwing venues in the UK and the closest is in Manchester so this is real ‘cutting edge stuff’ for Cumbria!
