Amy’s HR career on target at Cumbria parks group

Amy Parker enjoys the great outdoors in her leisure time

[K]een clay pigeon shooter Amy Parker has triggered a new phase in her management career by taking on a senior role with a major Cumbria leisure group.

Amy is now the human resources manager of Holgates Parks, based at the company’s flagship Silverdale Holiday Park near Arnside in South Lakeland.

The newly created post at Holgates sees Amy put in charge of recruitment, training and other support activity for the firm’s 150-plus employees.

The post has meant a return for Amy to her geographical roots after having spent five years with a top international employment law consultancy based in Manchester.

Amy grew up in Warton near Carnforth, and attended Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale before completing a business administration course at Lancaster and Morecambe College.

She went on to study for the professional HR management qualification set by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development to which she is now admitted as a member.

Some 20 new jobs were created last year across Holgates’ six holiday parks in Cumbria and north Lancashire, and Amy says the company will continue to recruit in 2018.

Most positions, she comments, are linked to skills training programmes and are especially suitable for those wanting to make a career in the tourism industry.

Amy says she believes that the sector has a very bright future, and that Holgates is quietly confident of enjoying another record season for visitors this year.

The family-owned group, which first started welcoming guests over 60 years ago, provides luxury holiday homes to rent and own, glamping facilities, and pitches for touring caravans and tents.

Many guests, says Amy, come to Cumbria on holiday to explore the countryside – and fell walking is also a favourite pastime of hers and her 12-year-old daughter Grace.

Amy additionally enjoys running and keep-fit training, and she and her partner Patrick also share a passion for clay pigeon shooting which they have both recently taken up.
