[N]orth Cumbria’s health organisations are working together to encourage nursing graduates to stay in Cumbria.
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust (NCUH), Cumbria Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (CPFT) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) are all joining forces to encourage as many nurses as possible to live and work in Cumbria.
Cumbria boasts unique opportunities for nurses and is a fantastic place to work. There are a host of career and training opportunities to really develop new nurses and lead them on to a fantastic career within Cumbria.
NCUH, CPFT and NWAS will be holding a recruitment event on Saturday 3 February 2018 where prospective nurses can come along and get more information about the profession and chat with current staff from the different organisations. The event is open to registered nurses, returning to practice or a student nurses nearing qualification and interested in working as a nurse in Cumbria.
Interviews will also take place on the day so a graduating nurse could walk straight into a fantastic career after completing their course.
The event will be held at the James George Education Centre, Cumberland Infirmary, Infirmary Street, Carlisle, CA2 7HY on Saturday 3 February and will be begin at 10am, with doors opening at 9am for refreshments.
Maurya Cushlow, executive director of nursing & midwifery at NCUH said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to come and chat with practicing nurses and see what their future holds in north Cumbria. There are great opportunities to enhance and extend your role as a nurse here, working in many different aspects of patient care.
“It is a really exciting time to be joining our Trust, we’ve recently opened a new state-of-the-art LINAC machine in Radiology and in July 2017 it was announced there will be more than £65 million invested in North Cumbria to improve cancer care, complete the next stage of development at West Cumberland Hospital and establish Integrated Care Communities.
“It’s my 35th year working for the NHS – I started out as a nurse and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. It’s a hugely rewarding and fulfilling job.”
Linda Bennetts, associate director of nursing for mental health at CPFT, added: “There’s such a wide variety of opportunities available for nurses in Cumbria. We’re developing some really innovative ways of working which makes it an exciting time to join us and make a difference.
“This event is a great opportunity to talk to staff from different organisations and ask any questions you have about what it’s like to live and work here. I recently moved to Cumbria from Cornwall and was drawn here by the values of the organisation and the quality of life for my family.”
Operations manager for North West Ambulance Service, Caroline Hastings, said: “Working together with our NHS colleagues is really important to us and we will be supporting them at this event encouraging nurses to consider a career in Cumbria, which is a fantastic and beautiful place to live and work.
“We have been working jointly with NCUH and CPFT on recent recruitment projects and this is something we are looking to continue in the future.”
