[A] man who died following a road traffic collision yesterday (3rd February) on the A596 has been identified as Steven Parker, 23, from Wigton.

At around 4.50pm on Saturday 3rd February 2018 a road traffic collision occurred on the A596, between Carlisle Bridge and Station Road. The collision involved a BMW 335D X Drive and a Vauxhall Corsa.

The driver of the BMW, Steven Parker, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two male passengers were taken to Carlisle Infirmary, one passenger is in a serious condition in intensive care, the other suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, a 25-year-old man, from Wigton was unhurt, as were his two passengers.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 16:50 two fire engines from Wigton and Aspatria attended the A596 following a collision involving two cars.

“Firefighters assisted Cumbria Police and North West Ambulance Service and remained at the scene for one hour and 10 minutes.”

The road was closed for 6 hours whilst emergency services attended the scene and the cars were recovered. A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed.
