Man killed in Carlisle forklift truck accident

[P]olice have confirmed that a man from Skipton has died following an incident at a Carlisle salvage site.

Police were called at 11.25am today (15th February) following an incident at Michael Douglas Auto Salvage on Stainton Road.

The man was treated at the scene by air ambulance paramedics and NWAS but died at the scene.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The man’s next of kin and the Coroner have been informed.

“Police are working with the Health & Safety Executive.”

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 11:21am today, Thursday 15 February firefighters were called to a commercial property on Stainton Road, Carlisle, after reports of a person trapped underneath a forklift truck.

“Fire crews removed the casualty from underneath the forklift truck and handed them over to the air ambulance.

“Crews were in attendance for two hours.”
