Paul Spence

[T]he family of a man who died at Michael Douglas Auto Salvage Ltd in Carlisle on Thursday (15 Feb) have paid tribute to a ‘hard-working family man’.

The death occurred when a customer became trapped by a piece of machinery.

Mr Paul Spence, 64, was treated by North West Ambulance Service and the air ambulance but sadly died at the scene.

A spokesman for Paul’s family said: “Tragically on 15th February 2018, Paul Spence of Skipton, aged 64, was killed in a forklift incident in Carlisle. Beloved husband of Sandra, treasured Dad to Maria and Samantha, much loved brother to Derek and Janet, uncle to Neil, Michael and Graham and great uncle.

“Paul was a well-known and much respected garage owner in Skipton, renowned for his cheeky smile and wicked sense of humour.

“His family described him as a hard-working family man who was a gifted tradesman. He could turn his hand to anything and had the ability to take everything in his stride.  He had a passion  for classic and fast cars, particularly restoring them. He also had a love for rock music, especially watching local bands with friends, enjoyed with a pint of Guinness.

“From the many messages and cards received, everybody has described Paul as genuine, selfless and always happy to help.  They said “you couldn’t meet a nicer guy”.

“The family would like to thank the emergency services that attended the scene and the extended support that is being offered by friends and family at this difficult time.

“Funeral arrangements will be detailed in the Craven Herald in due course.”
