[A] major recruitment drive is underway at Windermere Lake Cruises, to fill around 80 job roles, ahead of the peak holiday season.

During the summer months, staff numbers at Cumbria’s most popular visitor attraction need to almost double to approximately 150 people, to deal with the huge demand of almost 1.6 million passenger journeys on Windermere Lake Cruises every year.

This year, a variety of customer service roles are available over the busy March-November period, based at Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside.

The fixed-term seasonal contracts span a range of job roles. As well as crews to sail on its fleet of historic ‘steamers’, waterbuses and traditional wooden launches, staff are needed for ticket offices, cafés, shops and information centres. There are also summer vacancies to oversee the company’s 100 self-drive motor boats and rowing boats.

HR Manager at Windermere Lake Cruises, Ian Wilkinson, says, “Our vessels operate seven days a week throughout the year, but the increased demand in the summer months means we need to fill dozens of job roles to help run what has become a highly complex operation. It’s important we get the right people in place to service 8 lakeside locations and keep the business running smoothly at peak times.”

He adds, “We currently have staff ranging from 17 year olds through to people in their 70s, so there are diverse opportunities available for everyone. Full training is given to all new recruits and we can definitely promise some of the best views you are likely to find anywhere in the country!”

Job application forms are available online. Further details are also available by emailing [email protected] or by calling 015394 43360.
