Woman, 84, killed in Shipton-by-Beningborough crash

[P]olice are appealing for witnesses to a collision in which an 84-year old woman died to contact them.

The collision occurred at 12.35pm on Saturday 24 February 2018 and involved a white Toyota Aygo and a blue Volkswagen Tiguan.

The white Aygo, driven by an 89-year-old man from York with an 84-year-old woman passenger was travelling along Corban Lane from Wigginton towards Shipton-by-Beningborough and the Tiguan, driven by a 67-year-old man with a 65-year-old woman passenger and two children aged 6 and 7 years of age, was travelling in the opposite direction.

The 84-year-old female passenger in the Aygo was taken to York District Hospital by ambulance, where she later very sadly died. The 89-year-old male driver of the Aygo was also taken to York District Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The occupants of the Tiguan sustained minor injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who saw the two vehicles prior to the incident, to contact the Major Collision Investigation Team on 01609643185 and speak to Detective Sergeant 1818 Jeremy Bartley or Detective Constable 1658 Kirsten Aldridge. Police are not yet in a position to release the identity of the woman who died.
