Step out to discover some of Eden’s amazing walks during English Tourism Week

[T]his year, Eden District Council’s Tourism Team are encouraging local people and visitors to step out and enjoy some of the huge range of walks on offer in this beautiful corner of Cumbria during English Tourism Week 2018.

Running from 17 – 25 March, English Tourism Week provides an extra opportunity to celebrate the huge variety of walks that are on offer around the Eden Valley, Ullswater and the North Pennines.

The Eden Tourism Team are running a special competition with a range of amazing prizes donated by local tourism businesses. To enter the competition visit www,visiteden.co.uk before 26 March 2018. The Tourism Team are also working with Penrith Ramblers and Kirkby Stephen Walkers are Welcome to offer local people and visitors the chance to explore parts of Eden in the company of expert walking guides on a series of free walks.

Special Walks for English Tourism Week include:

  • Sunday 18 March:

History in our Countryside – The Lowther Valley, Askham Fell and Heughscar Hill – 7.5 mile walk

  • Thursday 22 March:

Dawdles Walk Northern Viaduct Trust accessible walk

A delightful level walk along the old Stainmore Railway with spectacular views from the splendid viaducts with added historical information in the North Pennines AONB.  Wheelchairs and buggies welcome.

  • Friday 23 March:

Around or over Dufton Pike – a prominent peak on the East Fellside – 4.5 mile walk

  • Friday 23  March:

Iconic Features of the North Pennines – Great Rundale, Maize Beck and High Cup Nick – 10 mile walk

Places on these special walks are limited and must be pre booked.

Kirkby Stephen and District Walkers are Welcome are also delighted to be running a special walk during English Tourism Week. Chair of Kirkby Stephen and District Walkers are welcome Anne Sandell: “Walking is at the heart of Kirkby Stephen and the Upper Eden Valley for both residents and visitors alike.  From weekly health walks, disabled routes, the Poetry Path, following the River Eden to climbing Nine Standards Rigg on the famous Coast to Coast walk there is a fantastic variety to enjoy in all weathers. We look forward to welcoming you.”

“The walks are just one example of how the area will showcase itself during English Tourism Week. English Tourism Week 2018 is all about celebrating what’s great about our area’s dynamic and fascinating tourism industry” said Charlie Thornton, Tourism Development Officer at Eden District Council.
