Year 7 Boys Team who won the Allerdale & Copeland Football Tournament

[A] very successful season was rounded off in style yesterday as the Year 7 St Benedict’s team were crowned Allerdale and Copeland 9-a-side champions.

The competition saw seven schools from Copeland and Allerdale competing in the annual event.

The competition structure placed St Benedict’s in Group A, where they backed up their recent good form by winning every match in their group.

They had impressive wins against Workington Academy (1-0), Cockermouth School (2-0) and St Joseph’s School (5-0) to top the group.

In the semi-final St Benedict’s faced a strong Netherhall side but dominated possession and won 2-0 to reach the final.

They faced Nelson Tomlinson School in the final, and again showed their class and ran out 3-0 victors.

Tony Harrison, PE Teacher and coach for the team is extremely proud and comments:

“This is a great way to end the season with this tournament victory. The team played some lovely football as the tournament progressed and to go the whole competition without conceding a goal was especially pleasing.”

“They are a great bunch of lads and again this success is part of the season long effort from all involved. Yet again the boys had great support from parents and carers which added to the atmosphere for the games.”

“Well done lads on a great first season at St Benedict’s.”
