Estate agent Jan has the key to help bring home Bayb’s

Helping to bring home the Bayb’s appeal is Jan Hannah, of JH Homes (left), and appeal co-ordinator Heidi Bowron

[U]lverston estate agent Jan Hannah (nee Lyle) is helping to bring home Bay Hospitals Charity’s Bayb’s Maternity Appeal with a donation of £1,000!

The appeal, which closes at the end of the month, is now on the cusp of achieving its £250,000 target for equipment and furnishings for the new South Lakes Birth Centre at Furness General Hospital. And Jan’s donation takes it closer still.

Over the last six months, Jan and her six-strong team at JH Homes in New Market Street, have been operating a “Charity begins at Homes” scheme whereby a donation to the Bayb’s appeal has been set aside after every completed house sale.

Explained mum-of-one Jan, who founded JH Homes four years ago and is now the recipient of the British Property Federation’s Gold Award as Ulverston’s premier estate agency for 2017 and 2018: “I’m a local girl, born and bred, and I’m very proud of my roots. I’m also a mum. My daughter Abbi is now 13-years-old.

“I have been an estate agent all my working life. A lot of what I do is about family – helping families find the right home to make family life better. For me, the Bayb’s appeal really touched a chord. It seemed a natural choice of charity for JH Homes to support because its aim is ultimately to give local families the best start to family life by helping to provide the best environment for parents and their newborns to begin their life’s journey together.”

Heidi Bowron, Bayb’s Maternity Appeal co-ordinator, said: “We are extremely grateful to Jan and her JH Homes team for this donation. We are reaching a very exciting time now as we are almost within touching distance of achieving our Bayb’s appeal target.”

The kit and décor being funded by the Bayb’s appeal are “extras” that fall outside the remit of what the NHS is able to fund at the £12 million maternity unit, which opened in February, but add much to what it is able to offer both staff and patients in terms of comfort, choice, peace of mind and training.
