[C]umbria Police received a report of a fire at a property in Knock – a small village east of Penrith – at around 2am this morning (1/4/18).
Police, along with other emergency services, attended the address and emergency services remain at the scene this morning.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “There are currently two people unaccounted for.
“Neighbouring properties were affected by the fire and smoke but residents from these neighbouring properties were able to evacuate their homes safely.
“The cause of the fire is currently unexplained and officers are working closely with colleagues from Cumbria Fire and Rescue.”
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue service said: “At 1:49am four fire engines from Appleby Penrith and Kirby Stephens and an aerial ladder platform from Carlisle east as well as several specialist appliances attended a fire involving a mid terraced property in the C3065 in Knock.
“The fire spread to the neighbouring properties and firefighters used two breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets and an aerial ladder platform to bring the fire under control.
“Crews remain at the scene dampening down the fire.”
