[C]umberland Building Society has announced the appointment of Jill Johnston as its new Head of HR and Jackie Arnold as a new Non-Executive Director. The Cumberland is the UK’s 10th largest building society and Cumbria’s largest financial organisation.

Jill Johnston has over 20 years experience in HR and has held a variety of senior positions for organisations including the Guardian Media Group, Border TV and TeamRock Limited. Most recently she’s been running her own HR consultancy business. Outside of work she’s a non-executive member of the Employment Advisory Board of the University of Cumbria and an appointed mentor for Inspira. Jill is married with three children and lives in Carlisle.

Jackie Arnold joins the Cumberland with over 35 years’ experience in financial and business management, most recently as Head of Strategy at BAE Systems. Jackie is a Professor of Practice at the University of Cumbria and Vice-Chair of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and lives in Barrow.

Trevor Hebdon, the Cumberland’s Chairman, said, “We are delighted that Jill and Jackie have joined our team. Jill brings a wealth of industry knowledge and deep understanding of HR, and Jackie has considerable experience in strategic business management. These appointments continue our drive to improve diversity across The Cumberland’s senior management team, helping us to better reflect and represent the communities we work in. Their experience and judgement will be of great benefit to our business as we continue to grow.”
