Man arrested after Cleator Moor fire

[C]umbria Police received a report of a fire at a property at Duke Street, Cleator Moor – at around 6:35pm today, 17th June 2018, following concerns for the safety of a man.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “For his safety and the safety of the Fire Officers on scene, Officers had to use force to remove the man from the property.

“The fire at the property has now been extinguished.

“The cause of the fire is currently unexplained and officers are working closely with colleagues from Cumbria Fire and Rescue.

“Officers can confirm that a 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.”

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 6:33pm firefighters were called to a house fire on Duke Street, Cleator Moor.

“Crews from Workington, Whitehaven and Egremont were mobilised and the crews, four wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

“One casualty was rescued from the building by firefighters and handed into the care of paramedics.”
