[P]OLICE are appealing for information after a man was stabbed outside the Middleton Arena. At around 10pm on Friday 22 June 2018, police were called to reports of a disturbance outside the Middleton Arena in Rochdale.

A 26-year-old man left the arena and was pursued by two offenders, who caught up with him and began a fight.

In this disturbance, the 26-year-old was left with a stab wound to his back and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a serious condition.

The offenders fled from the scene and remain outstanding.

Enquiries into the full circumstances around this incident are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Rich Shelton of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This man was enjoying an evening watching the boxing when the offenders brought his night to an abrupt end.

“Local residents and businesses will see extra patrols in the area- if you have any questions about what happened last night, or want to pass on information; you can speak with them directly.

“The Arena was very busy last night, so I’d ask anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously, or with information that could help this investigation, to pass this to police.”

Anyone with information should contact GMP on 0161 856 4646 quoting incident number 2313 of 22/06/18. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
