[F]or the fifth consecutive year, the four-star Inn on the Lake in Glenridding has played host to their popular Royal Ascot Ladies Race Day (Thursday 21st June), all in aid of their charity of the year, Keswick School. Over 70 lovely ladies from across Cumbria and further afield attended the event, filling the hotel with fancy hats and glamorous dresses, many of which are now regular guests to this glitzy annual event.

On arrival, guests were greeted with glasses of bubbly and canapés in the Orangery, which were enjoyed whilst fun money donations were made and bets were placed. Ladies then made their way to the AA 2 Rosette Lake View restaurant for a live television transmission of the Royal Ascot Race Day on giant screens provided by Fluid Productions. Local singer Glen Anderson entertained in between races, as a superb 3 course Royal Ascot lunch was enjoyed by all.

The day raised a total of £1,045 for Keswick School, from donations towards the fun money and from raffle ticket sales. Gary Wilson, General Manager commented, “Over the last five years this fabulous event has raised over £9,000 for four well deserving causes; the Great North Air Ambulance, Amy’s Care, Blood Bikes Cumbria and now Keswick School. Next year we will be holding our Royal Ascot Ladies Day at our sister hotel, the four-star Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. After a £10million development, the Lodore is the perfect venue for this glamorous event.”

Simon Jackson, Head Teacher of Keswick School commented, “’The generosity of everyone at the event was fantastic. We hope to use the funds raised to support some of our most vulnerable students to have the opportunities and facilities they deserve and develop their skills in catering and hospitality. This kind of support makes a great deal of difference and at the same time looks like great fun!”

Raffles prizes were generously donated by LCR Systems, Evergreens Florist, Caterite, Ullswater Steamers, Heatons, Jennings Brewery, H&H Reeds Printers, Grapevine, Gilchrist & Soames UK Ltd, Pioneer Food Services, Coniston Corporate, Eden Valley Meats, LCR Systems Ltd, Mitre Linen, Yess Electricals, City Electrical Factors, Bunzl, Neve Fleetwood, House of Sarrands, The Lakes Distillery, Greenfields Heat & Power Ltd, and Farrer’s Tea & Coffee.

This popular event books up fast, so keep an eye out for next year’s date (Thursday 20th June) and book early – 017687 77285
