[D]ynamic Cumbrian manufacturer Ast Signs Ltd has completed a top-secret collaboration to mark the 50th anniversary of the cult-classic Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons – Gerry Anderson’s iconic 1960’s TV programme featuring Martian invaders and a seemingly indestructible marionette hero.

To celebrate the anniversary, Jamie Anderson, the son of the show’s legendary creator and director of family-run Anderson Entertainment, contacted Ast Signs’ industry-leading Workwear and Embroidery team with a top-secret brief to create a limited-edition 50th anniversary polo shirt.

Jamie said: “A colleague recommended Ast Signs. We always look for quality and professionalism as we have a heritage brand that must always be represented with top quality products. Ast Signs’ specialism in embroidery and its approach to the project meant we felt confident from the get-go.”

The design called for the shirts to be embroidered with the Spectrum Roundel, the logo of Captain Scarlet’s security organisation. Since going on sale, the commemorative polo shirts have become a surprise hit, with fans snapping them up and leaving rave reviews on gerryanderson.co.uk, the exclusive vendor.

“Feedback has been fantastic, with customers commenting on the quality of the garment – particularly the embroidery. It’s been a great success.” said Jamie.

The mission continues, with another collaboration in the works, according to Jamie Anderson: “We’re planning a Joe 90 polo for later this year (that’s an exclusive!) and it’ll be produced by Ast Signs.”

Mark Aston, Ast Signs’ Managing Director, agreed: “It was great to work on this collaboration. We are looking forward to working with Jamie and the team again later this year.”
