1960 Is The New 2018 For Ice Cream

Vintage Ice Cream Van

[T]he sun is shining and it is the peak time of the year for ice cream vans to take to the streets selling ice creams, as H&H Auction Rooms have just discovered. Going under the hammer at their last specialist sale of a truly unique item; a 1960’s vintage ice cream van. Remembered by so many, and today very rarely seen, this vintage cream ice cream van sold at auction for £8000.

Originally it was owned by a gentleman in Carlisle, who had been running it as a business. The van had been sensitively restored and was in immaculate condition, displaying its original number plate holder. It had a maintained freezing system and as it didn’t need any power supply, the van was ideal for shows and exhibition.

The new owners were a lucky family, who just happened to be in the area at the time of the sale. With a Cheshire based business, the family have now taken the van home to their farm shop and intend to parade the van alongside a Morris Traveller car of the same vintage.

Stephen Farthing, Auctioneer & Valuer for H&H Auctions Rooms, added to the sale and described recent auctions: “As we had such a unique item, this particularly sale attracted much interest. This vintage ice cream van was very rare and a complete one-off. I had certainly never seen anything like it before. With the excellent condition of the vehicle and fully working system, it is understandable that it sold for this price.

The H&H Auction Rooms’ Specialist Architectural and Salvage Sales, which are held on a Thursday evening, regularly attract both a very strong number of entries and a large number of potential purchases. Some of the architectural items, which have also recently sold, included a pony plough for £80, various garden ornaments and garden seats, and a Lutyens’ style garden seat which sold for £180.

The next H&H Auction Rooms’ Vintage auction is scheduled in August. For this sale, I would encourage any unique items that are antiques and/or vintage. We are already receiving an incredible volume of items, so it is advised that customers book these in quick. If anyone is unsure of the aptness of an item, please do not hesitate to get in touch and arrange a viewing in advance”, concludes Stephen.

If you would like any further information, or would like to book an item in, please contact the saleroom on 01228 406320 or telephone Stephen on 01228 406 320.
