
[P]olice are investigating a serious sexual assault that occurred on St Ninians Rd, Upperby, Carlisle in the early hours of Thursday 12th July.
Police can confirm that they arrested a man this morning (13th July) who has since been released under investigation, whilst they continue with their enquiries.
Detective Inspector Dave Cooper said: “This assault occurred in the early hours after the England v Croatia world cup game. We believe many people would have been out socialising together in the Upperby and Harraby area.
“If you were in the Upperby or Harraby area, in particular on St Ninians Road between midnight and 2am on Thursday 12th July, we urge you to come forward and assist us with our enquiries.“
