[A] CARLISLE woman has denied an alleged benefits fiddle which is said to total almost £35,700.
Stacey Weeden, 31, faces two charges. These allege that she committed fraud by dishonestly failing to disclose information during a period of just over four years.
Weeden stands accused of failing to disclose that she was “living and maintaining a common household” with a man at Carlisle.
It is alleged she failed to make this disclosure both to Carlisle City Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
The court heard the alleged “overpayment” of all benefits – housing and council tax, and income support – is said to be £35,689.36.
Weeden, of Welsh Road, Carlisle, pleaded not guilty to both charges during a short hearing at the city’s magistrates’ court earlier today (TUES).
Her case was sent by magistrates to Carlisle Crown Court, where she is due to appear on August 31. In the meantime, Weeden was granted unconditional bail.
