[T]wo new Lay Members recently joined the Governing Body at NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). This follows three members reaching the end of their term of office.

Carole Green has been appointed as Lay Member for Quality and Performance and John Whitehouse has been appointed as Lay Member for Finance and Governance.

Their appointments follow the departure of previous Lay Members Ruth Gildert, Les Hanley and Peter Scott at the end of June this year.

Anna Stabler

The CCG’s Director of Nursing and Quality Anna Stabler will now also take on the role of Governing Body Registered Nurse, which was previously filled by one of the Lay Members.

Governing Body Chair Jon Rush said: “I would like to give my gratitude and thanks to Ruth, Les and Peter, on behalf of the CCG, for their dedication to their roles during their time with the CCG.

“They have been a key part of the CCG through some crucial times and their experience, knowledge and work has been integral to the development of the organisation. We wish them all the very best in the future.

“We also offer a very warm welcome to Carole, John and Anna who we are very much looking forward to working with, as part of the Governing Body. They bring with them a wealth of experience which will be essential to the organisation to ensure that we are doing the best we can for our patients and communities in north Cumbria.

“We continue to face many challenges across the health system and have to often make difficult decisions to achieve the best safe and sustainable solutions for patients. Carole and John will play a key part in this with their Governing Body roles covering Quality and Performance and Finance and Governance.”

The Governing Body ensures that NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group has appropriate arrangements in place to exercise its functions effectively, efficiently and economically and in accordance with clearly established principles of good governance.

Carole has almost 30 years of health management experience, working at senior levels both in the UK and internationally. She lived for almost 3 years in Sierra Leone where she worked across government, charitable and private sectors. She is now based in Cumbria near Bootle and is a community first responder with North West Ambulance Service.

Carole is passionate about health improvement and particular areas of interest include the health of women and children, older people and mental health. In addition to very senior roles in the NHS, the private sector and in two international non-governmental organisations, Carole has worked as a consultant with many organisations globally undertaking a variety of assignments.

John is a qualified public finance accountant. In a career spanning 36 years he has worked in local government, the private sector and the NHS. Within the NHS he held a number of senior roles in finance but most significantly in internal audit. He lives in Hartlepool with his wife. He has two daughters and grandchildren with whom he spends a great deal of his time.

John also has roles with two other CCGs, NHS Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield CCG and NHS North Durham CCG.

Anna is the CCG’s Director of Nursing & Quality. She is a senior nurse and midwife who has worked across a number of NHS organisations including North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The next Governing Body Meeting will take place from 1pm on Wednesday 1 August 2018. This will take place at:
Energus, Blackwood Road, Lilyhall, Workington, CA14 4JW

All members of the public are welcome to attend (subject to venue capacity).
