[A]skam-in-Furness teacher Harriet Cooper teaches art at her local school by day, but by night she’s a funk and soul singer with eight-piece South Lakes band Grand Central Groove.
The band have a wide audience appeal, playing a variety of popular and iconic tracks from past and present. If it’s groovy and funky, Grand Central Groove will play it!
They cover artists from Stevie Wonder, Chic, Earth Wind & Fire through to more modern artists such as Bruno Mars, Daft Punk and Jamiroquai.
Harriet has sung from a young age initially with Abbey Musical Society for ten years, and then joined several bands over the years notable Versi and the Proles who played Manchester Academy and also supported widely acclaimed music and comedy act, The Lancashire Hotpots.
More recently she played weddings, christenings and private functions as one half of an acoustic act. She has been off the music scene for nearly 5 years since settling down and starting a family but Harriet says; “I feel revitalised and reinvigorated by my new band and look forward to the number of gigs already booked in over the next few months, including The BabyCham Ball on Friday 10 August at The Abbey House Hotel, Barrow.”
The event will raise money for the Mayor’s charities – Women’s Community Matters, Mind in Furness and St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston, tickets cost £12 and include a pie and peas supper.
The band are available for bookings and can be contacted for enquiries on Facebook or by phone on 0781021038.
