[C]umbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall has recently awarded almost £21,500 to local community groups from his Community Fund.

The Community Fund is specifically aimed at supporting projects that are provided within local communities for the benefit of that community. Groups are invited to apply for up to £10,000 to help fund projects that engage in initiatives and interventions to reduce crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.

Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall: “I am delighted to be able to provide funding through my Community Fund. It is an excellent opportunity for community groups, charities and voluntary groups to come forward to receive funding for the work that they are doing which supports reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.

“The three groups that have been successful are each targeting an area of priority in my Police and Crime Plan, such as business/retail crime, hate crime, and support for young people.

“I am a firm believer in the approach of ‘we not they’ and the Community Fund is all about giving funding to local communities to make a difference in their local areas. I am looking forward to visiting these groups later in the year to see this for myself.”

The following groups have been successful in the latest round of applications:

  • Carlisle Retailers Against Crime £1,500
  • Signal Film and Media (Barrow) £10,000
  • Resource Creatives Enterprise Ltd £9,892

For full information about the successful applicants, and for further information about the Commissioner’s Community fund and details of how to apply, please visit http://www.cumbria-pcc.gov.uk/working-for-you/community-fund.aspx or ring 01768 217734.

The closing date for the next round of applications is 30 November 2018.
