Racegoers have raised a record £10,500 for Cartmel Primary School.
The school is raising funds for its Goes Wild project – a transformational initiative to create a greener, more inspiring outdoor space where children can learn, play and connect with nature for years to come.
It was the charity selected by Cartmel Races for its meeting on June 26.
Over 12,000 people attended the popular race meeting, which also featured a spectacular evening performance by the Kaiser Chiefs, bringing a memorable day of racing and entertainment to a close.
The total is believed to be the largest amount ever raised by a single charity on one race day at Cartmel Races.
One of the day’s highlights came after the final race when six inflatable animal mascots sprinted down the famous Cartmel home straight in front of the packed grandstand to compete for the Cartmel Lodge Park Goes Wild Cup.
The crowd enthusiastically cheered on the competitors before Panel Beater Peter (Rabbit) raced to victory in a fun-filled finale that delighted spectators of all ages.

Geraldine McKay, director of Racing at Cartmel Racecourse, said: “We’re so delighted that our local primary school has broken the fundraising record at Cartmel for a single race day.
“Their mascot race was an amazing piece of theatre to end the day’s racing programme and the crowd loved it.
“We’re proud also that our racegoers, many of them local, put their hands in their pockets for such a great cause close to home.”
Rachel Battersby, headteacher at Cartmel Primary School, said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support shown by everyone who donated, volunteered and cheered us on.
“Reaching more than £10,500 is beyond anything we imagined and brings us closer to making our Cartmel Primary Goes Wild vision a reality for our children.”
The school would like to thank everyone who donated, volunteered, sponsored the event and supported the mascot race.
