The Cumberland has won the ‘Best Regional Building Society’ award at the Mortgage Finance Gazette awards, held in London on Thursday 15 November.
The title was awarded to the building society offering the most consistently competitive mortgage rates over the previous 12 months, and this is now the seventh time the Cumberland has received the accolade. The award is the business’s second national mortgage award this year, having been named Regional Lending Provider of the Year by Moneyfacts in June.
Des Moore, chief executive at the Cumberland, said: “To win this award for the fifth successive year is continued proof of our commitment to providing great value mortgages. As the award is based on the actual cost of a mortgage rather than the ‘headline’ rate it recognises the most competitive mortgage provider. Our aim has always been to offer our customers consistently competitive mortgages and it’s fantastic to see this acknowledged nationally.”
The award marks the end of another successful year for the Cumberland, which saw the region’s largest building society announce record mortgage lending figures, launch its pioneering ‘Research Hub’, offering people from the region the opportunity to help shape the future of its branch network, and introduce Freedom, the UK’s first current account for apprentices.
