Driver critical after Barrow collision

Police are in attendance at a single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at around 7:00pm today (2nd January) on Yarlside Road, Barrow.

Yarlside Road will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “It is believed the driver has suffered a medical episode.

“Police and ambulance are in attendance. The driver is in a critical condition.

“There will be delays and congestion in and around this area. Please plan your journey accordingly.”

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 7:10pm on the 2nd of January 2019 two fire engines from Barrow-in-Furness and Ulverston stations attended a road traffic collision on Yarlside Road, Barrow-in-Furness.

“Firefighters rescued one casualty from the vehicle and made the scene safe.

“Crews were in attendance for fifty minutes.”
