A South Cumbrian park has been named one of the best green spaces in the country.
Ford Park in Ulverston has received the Green Flag Award for 2026 and the charity-run community space is one of 2,391 sites across the UK to achieve the standard this year.
The scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, is celebrating its 30th year.
Sam Ronson, park director, said: “On behalf of the Ford Park team, I’m delighted that our fantastic park has been recognised again for our continued efforts to keep Ford Park rich with biodiversity and a beautiful green space for our community.
“All of this work is made possible by both the staff and trustees of the charity but wouldn’t be achievable without our wonderful team of volunteers who undertake so much of the maintenance of Ford Park for the benefit of our town and so it’s those volunteers who have really earned this award.”
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: “Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy.
“Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.
“Investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.
“Ford Park has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard. Congratulations to everyone involved.”
Ford Park is run by a charity, which relies on donations, memberships, fundraising events and volunteers to help keep the grounds safe, welcoming and cared for.
