A woman is in a critical condition after a two-vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the A595 at Egremont.
Police were contacted at around 3.25pm yesterday (6/2/19).
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A woman, driving a Ford Ka, aged in her 50s, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where her condition was described as critical but stable.
“The second vehicle involved was an Audi. The driver of the Audi – a woman in her 40s – suffered what is believed to be minor injuries.”
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 3:25pm two fire engines from Whitehaven attended a person trapped two-vehicle road traffic collision at Egremont.
“Firefighters used Holmatro hydraulic equipment to release the casualty and hand them to the care of ambulance staff.
“Crews were on scene for approximately one hour.”
The road reopened shortly before 9.30pm.
