A MAN found in possession of two knives after being arrested in Carlisle city centre has been sent to prison.
Kyle Crawford, 23, came to the attention of police on Botchergate just after 3am on December 16.
While “heavily under the influence of alcohol”, Crawford was repeatedly verbally abusive to officers, Carlisle Crown Court heard.
After being handcuffed and arrested, he managed to pull a kitchen knife from his trouser pocket and began to cut himself. That blade was recovered, along with a lock knife with a craft knife blade found attached to a key ring.
Crawford, of Balmoral Court, Carlisle, admitted possessing two bladed articles in public, and a drunk and disorderly charge.
He was jailed today (WED) for a total of 31 weeks.
Judge Nicholas Barker told him: “It is well understood that knife crime is a significant problem.” He added: “If there is no knife, no knife can be used and that is why courts view the possession of bladed items so seriously.”
