Furness College

Parents of primary school pupils who are puzzled at the prospect of homework are invited to sign up for a free homework club.

Furness College is inviting mums, dads and carers back to the classroom to learn basic maths and English skills so they can support their children’s studies.

Hilary Gregory

Head of Area for Maths and English Hilary Gregory said, for some parents, helping their children with homework can be quite daunting.

“Often parents want to help but don’t have the know-how either because they were taught differently, didn’t do well at school or maybe it is a long time since they left school,” she said.

“We will provide advice on how to support your child, basic maths and English skills and stress management tips that will give parents more confidence. We can also show them how to access to literacy and numeracy resources that will make things easier.”

The hour-long sessions will run at the Channelside campus on Mondays from 5-6pm and Fridays 10.30am to 11.30am starting after half term for five weeks. They are aimed at parents with children in Year 5 and Year 6 who are sitting SATs or will be facing them soon. Numbers are limited.
