Tullie House celebrates its 125th birthday with a very special weekend of activities for all ages starting at 10am at Saturday 2nd March. Showcasing the amazing work and activities that the museum presently offers, there will be opportunities to share memories of days gone by and a chance to have your say on the future of the museum.

Recently opened is the brand new temporary exhibition Tullie125: Celebrating 125 Years, which tells of Tullie House’s history through the stories and objects of staff and visitors to the museum. The exhibition runs until mid-March only, when its focus will be extended through the galleries in the form of a trail of people’s favourite objects.

To complement the exhibition, the Big Birthday Bash weekend is set to draw in crowds of visitors to help celebrate Tullie House as a local institution. The Tullie House team will be on hand throughout the weekend to facilitate real contact with collection items which are typically stored safely away out of sight. Specially created tours will help guests explore the history of the buildings and in the shop will be live demonstrations from talented creators behind the retail stock.

The Tullie House education team will be helping to recreate 1893 (the year Tullie House Museum opened) with Victorian objects and costume. There is even a chance take home a memento with your own Victorian family portrait.

For those who would appreciate a more relaxed visit on Sunday, the museum will open an hour earlier, at 11am. Visitors on Sunday can also join curator Melanie Gardner as she gives a unique insight into some of Tullie House’s costume collection and discloses major new plans to improve access to it.

Tullie House Museums is celebrating 125 years of stories. It invites you to form part of its ongoing history through classic and creative activities at the Big Birthday Bash, taking place 2-3 March 2019.
