A man has died following a road traffic collision on the northbound M6 between J41 and J42.

Police were called at 11:09pm on Sunday 21 April.

A blue Range Rover Evoque left the M6 and came to rest in a field just prior to Southwaite Services.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The driver, a 34-year-old man from outside the area was pronounced dead at the scene.

“No other vehicles were involved.

“His family have been informed.”

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “At 11:41pm three fire engines – two from Penrith and one from Carlisle fire stations attended a fatal road traffic collision on the M6 northbound motorway involving one vehicle.

Fire service assisted police in extricating one casualty from the vehicle using cutting equipment.

Fire crews were at the scene for one hour.

The M6 nothbound was closed until 4:30am.

Traffic was diverted via the A6.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who saw the Range Rover driving on the M6 prior to the collision to contact PC2091 Leigh Towlson on 101.
