
A judge has heard how a man was seen by members of the public staggering around Wigton town centre on March 11, when police arrived they found Daniel John Clarke had some white powder around his mouth and was in possession of illegal drugs.
Clarke, 37, of Ridley Road, Carlisle appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to possession of a quantity of Xanax tablets a controlled Class C drug, also a quantity of Class B, cannabis.
Clarke told District Judge Gerald Chalk, he was in a “bad place” at the time, his grandmother died in February, he cannot really remember much after that, he got the Xanax tablets to help him sleep, he has had highs a lows since the funeral, also some personal problems and ill health, he is in the process of getting some bereavement counselling.
He was fined £100 for possession of cannabis and £35 for the Xanax tablets, with prosecution costs of £85 and victims surcharge of £30, the drugs were forfeited and destroyed.
