The pedestrian who was seriously injured in the collision on the A69 at Warwick Bridge has died.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Robert Wilson, 75, of Carlisle was take to the Royal Victoria Infirmary but has since died.
“Officers arrested a 73-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.
“He has since been released under investigation.”
Officers continue to ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or believes they may have dash cam footage which could assist the investigation to get in touch referencing incident 171 of 27 April 2019.
