Local MP Tim Farron stepped up his campaign for more ambulance provision for the South Lakes during a meeting with a health minister.
Tim met with Stephen Hammond MP alongside Joan Williamson – a local ambulance campaigner from Bowness.
The minister said he accepted the pressures faced in rural areas and said he would go away and consider the proposals for more ambulances to be brought to the South Lakes.
The minister told Tim that there are currently 21 ambulances serving the Morecambe Bay area from Barrow across to Lancaster – with just half a dozen of those based in Westmorland and Lonsdale.
Tim said: “It was a really productive meeting with the minister and I’m grateful to Joan for coming along.
“During one of my regular advice surgeries earlier this year, Joan brought to my attention numerous stories of her friends and family members waiting hours for an ambulance to arrive to give them the treatment they so desperately needed.
“In such a big rural area like ours it’s clear that we don’t have our fair share of ambulances and we owe it to our brilliant paramedics to win our campaign for more.”
