Two cyclists taking part in the Fred Whitton Challenge cycle ride have been flown to hospital after falling from their bikes on Wrynose Pass.
Police were called at 4:57pm on Sunday 12 May.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The cyclists, both women were injured and flown to hospital by air ambulance crews.
“One was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with neck and spinal injuries.
“The other was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough also with neck and spinal injuries.
“Road closures were put in place as emergency services dealt with the scene.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact 101 quoting log 59 of 12 May.
