Penrith Show gains Principal Partner for anniversary show

Show President Les Armstrong and Vice Chair Fiona Kidd announcing the Principal Partner.

Penrith Show celebrates 185 years this year with the introduction of a Principal Partner and a change of date for the show. The Principal Partner for this year’s show has been announced as Kendal Calling.

In past years, Kendal Calling and Penrith Show have been held on the same weekend, causing additional congestion on the roads. With the date of the show changing, Kendal Calling were keen to help the show committee make the smoothest possible transition.

Richard Utting, Chair of Penrith Show said: “We are delighted that they have come on board as our Principal Partner this year. It is the first time we have introduced this level of sponsorship, and we are grateful for the substantial support they are providing.

“It is our 185th year so we wanted to be able to make a few changes, and after a couple of bad weather years, the contribution of a ‘Principal Partner’ makes a huge difference.

“At last year’s show we carried out market research and were pleased to hear that people love the show because it is a fantastic farming and fun day out. There was also a lot of feedback on the level of traffic congestion and poor signage, requests for more eating areas and a greater array of family entertainment. The support from Kendal Calling will go a long way to addressing these issues.

“Kendal Calling is making a valuable contribution to planning the traffic management and providing equipment to improve family facilities at Penrith Show. They are lending us picnic tables, enabling us to create two new areas – a great family area and another space for entertainment and music”

Jamie Smith, of Kendal Calling said: “We are really pleased to support Penrith Show in their 185th Year. Not only has this provided us with a great opportunity to support one of the area’s biggest local community events but also make a difference to the show itself. We wish the show well this year and hope it is another great success”.

Show Secretary Mandy Hitch said: “Sponsorship makes a valuable contribution to the running of the show and we are always grateful for all the support we receive. Introducing a Principal Partner allows us to create a very tailored package, one that promotes the best for both partners and sets a way forward for the future. We are of course very appreciative of all our sponsors – in particular, Penrith Building Society who have been our Main Sponsor for many years and who continue to sponsor us in our anniversary year too’’.

As part of their anniversary year, the committee is calling for old photographs to share on their Face Book Page www.facebook.com/penrithshow. Penrith Show is held at Brougham on Saturday 20th July with the first judging (horses) starting at 8am.

A free bus service continues from the auction mart and the town centre from 10am until 6pm and, in addition, the show is being extended to 9pm with a late bar and musical entertainment.
