MP and local councillors back campaign to cut speed limit on ‘dangerous’ Kendal road

South Lakes MP Tim Farron and local Liberal Democrat councillors are backing residents campaigning to reduce the speed limit on the A684 Singleton Park Road in Kendal.

Residents want the 40mph extending beyond the railway bridge, and the old unmaintained footpath repairing. The move comes after numerous accidents and near misses.

A petition signed by local residents will be presented to Cumbria County Council’s local committee by district councillor Eamonn Hennessy.

Eamonn said: “There are dozens of residents living on this stretch of road, but with increasing traffic, blind bends and concealed entrances they take their lives in their hands every day.

“This road needs to be 40mph not 60mph.”

Local resident Lydia Wiggins said: “I’ve had more than one near miss on the road. But it’s not me I’m worried about. I am terrified for my baby daughter.

“It’s very, very hard to push her pram up the verge as it is but crossing the road is so very dangerous when people are going at 60mph.”
