Copeland’s green spaces celebrated

Students from St Begh’s School, Whitehaven

COPELAND Council celebrated Love Parks Week (July 12 – 21) with a host of activities enjoyed by residents, councillors and employees.

The council’s Parks and Open Spaces team organised a range of events for all to enjoy to celebrate the national green spaces awareness week.

Copeland Council staff cleaning Castle Park, Whitehaven

Councillors and Council staff took part in a litter pick and mile-long health walk around Castle Park, Whitehaven. A family bumblebee scavenger hunt was held for residents as well as another one-mile walk round the park.

Students from St Begh’s School joined representatives from the Wildlife Trust at a ‘Let’s Get Buzzy’ event which seen the kids scouring Castle Park for pollinators.

Finishing off the celebration Phoenix Youth Group joined the Council’s Parks and Open Spaces team to find out what it was like working for the department.

Councillors and Council staff enjoy a one mile walk

Mike Starkie, Mayor of Copeland, said: “It’s fantastic to see our employees getting involved in their local communities and showcasing our borough’s beautiful green spaces.

“Our Parks and Open Spaces team spends 52 weeks a year keeping Copeland tidy and our parks maintained for residents to enjoy and it’s great to have the opportunity to celebrate this.

“I’d like to thank our hard working and dedicated employees, as well as Councillors and residents who took part in the events, it was clear to see that a fun time was had by all.”
