Two senior Allerdale councillors will be leading a litter pick in an area of Workington this week – and are encouraging members of the public to join them.

Council leader Marion Fitzgerald and Executive member Stephen Stoddart will be in Moorclose on Wednesday morning carrying out the work in and around Newlands Gardens.

Joining them will be staff from Castles & Coasts following a positive meeting between the councillors and the housing association earlier this month, enforcement officers from the council and the community payback team.

Cllr Stoddart, who represents the Moorclose and Mossbay ward, said: “We know that how clean our streets are is a big priority for local residents, that’s why it would be great to see as many people as possible turn out.”

The litter pick will take place on Wednesday between 9am and 12pm.

Any members of the public wishing to join in should meet in the car park in Newlands Gardens for 9am. Equipment will be provided.
