L-R: James Tose – CUFC Assistant Community Manager, Susan Watkins – Inspira Area Operations Manager and Andrew Hill – Employment and training Projects Officer Riverside Housing

Carlisle United Football Club Community Sports Trust have limited places on offer to 16 – 18 year olds who are currently not in education, employment or training.  The programme provides employability skills qualifications, functional skills qualifications and work experience in a variety of sectors and lasts for 12 weeks.

CUFC have been working with Inspira and Riverside Housing locally to ensure the programme meets the needs of the local community.

CUFC are working in partnerships with Inspira to identify young people who will benefit from this programme. Inspira are the leading career management and personal development organisation in Cumbria.

Susan Watkins, Inspira’s Area Operations Manager said, “We already work with young people who find themselves without education or employment after GCSEs. We are delighted to be working with CUFC on this project. We will be offering young people a pre-application programme to help them re-engage with education and prepare them for the selection process. As part of that we will provide some accredited learning in health and safety. This will be a vital qualification when they start their work placement as part of the traineeship.”

The programme kicks off in late September. It starts with delivery at Inspira offices in Carlisle. James Tose, CUFC, Assistant Community Manager, will be attending this delivery to provide further information to young people interested in undertaking a Traineeship. James said: “We are very excited to be able to bring this offer to Carlisle. We are working with businesses across our community to provide relevant work placements for young people whilst they also study for recognised qualifications. Our study facilities at Brunton Park are a great place for learning and we are looking forward to selecting our first cohort and welcoming them to our site.”

The Traineeship programme is not employment sector specific and so offers all young people who find themselves without a place in education or employment the opportunity to improve their CV. A bursary is on offer to young people on the programme, subject to satisfactory attendance.

For more information call Inspira on 0345 658 8647.
