Drawing of the ‘gazebo’

Businesses and tradespeople are being invited to find out more about an opportunity to work on an exciting £47,000 project to transform a community asset in Maryport.

The project will see the creation of a ‘gazebo’ out of an unused shelter on Maryport Promenade, a place for locals and visitors to enjoy views of the Solway, meet up and relax.

The shelter will be repainted, have a new roof installed and a window created, as well as an area at the front tarmacked and upgraded seating. A set of stainless steel furniture – such as a bike rack, picnic bench and a telescope – will also be part of the project.

The project is being led by the Maryport Area Coastal Community Team (MACCT), a group made up of representatives from Allerdale Borough Council, Maryport Town Council, other parish councils, community groups and businesses.

Most of the funding MACCT has secured has come from the Government’s Coastal Community fund specifically for the ‘gazebo’ project.

A special information session for businesspeople interested in carrying out elements of the work is being held next Thursday (October 3) at the Wave Centre in Maryport between 6pm and 7pm. Allerdale Borough Council is handling the appointment of contracts for the project as the accountable body. Council staff will be on hand to discuss the project and give advice on how to officially bid for the work.

The ‘gazebo’ project has strong links to the community with locals schools and residents involved with the design process.

For more information on the scheme or the information session please contact Allerdale’s Business Engagement Manager Toni Magean on [email protected] or call the economic growth team on 0303 123 1702.
