Campus Whitehaven has announced a partnership with Arts Out West, the rural touring scheme for West Cumbria, as it looks to expand on its community usage and grow upon the success seen in the past 11 months.

Arts Out West, which was formed in 1999, procures high quality, professional performing arts shows, in the mediums of theatre, music and dance, and brings them to community venues across West Cumbria. Arts Out West is part of Kirkgate Arts which also manages the Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth.

Speaking of the partnership, Sam French, Community Development Manager for Campus Whitehaven said: “I am delighted to have formed this partnership with such a reputable company as Arts Out West. Over the last 11 months, Campus Whitehaven has made strong inroads into its community offerings, particularly with our increasingly popular sports facilities, but we are now eager to expand on the versatile range of facilities we have, and this new partnership is a brilliant way to start. Arts Out West works with leading, nationally recognised theatre companies and international musicians, and having seen examples of what they offer, I am excited to see what they will bring to the Campus going forward.”

Chris Bridgman, Artistic Director for Arts Out West, said “Arts Out West is all about bringing great experiences to people of all ages in places where they feel at home. So we’re delighted to start working with Campus Whitehaven, welcoming people to their fantastic facilities and offering a variety of memorable shows.”

Kaleidoscope

The partnership between the two will see the first show, ‘Kaleidoscope’, come to the Campus on Friday 1st November. The show, developed by Filskit Theatre, is a mesmerising and playful new piece of theatre for babies aged 6–18 months, inspired by scientific research into how a baby’s sense of sight develops, and how they instinctively begin to categorise colours, filled with colourful sights and sounds.

Tickets are on sale now at £8.00 for 1 baby and 1 adult and can be purchased via the Arts Out West website; https://www.kirkgatearts.org.uk/mec-category/arts-out-west/
