Walney Cents Rugby Club have raised £2,011 for the Special Care Baby Unit at Furness General Hospital at the Dean Zaccarini Origin and Music Festival.
The annual festival, held in August, fundraises for a different charity each year. This year the Zaccarini family chose to donate to the Special Care Baby Unit, and Marie Oxley, mum to 7 year old player Cole, organised and held the raffle on the day raising £1,011. Marie, who works for Barclays Bank, was also able to get support from Barclays, who generously matched every £1 she raised up to £1,000. This brought the total raised to a fantastic £2,011.
Marie said: “We would like to thank everyone who bought tickets and supported Walney Cents by attending the festival, it was a brilliant day. We would also like to thank our amazing local businesses for donating prizes, we are so grateful to have had such support. Particular thanks go out to The Dunes Hotel, The Townhouse, Barrow Eats, Francesca’s, Aspire Bar, Mario House, Little Tony’s Tyre Shop, Graham Construction, Moses Plumbing and Heating, and Travis Perkins.”
