Carlisle Crown Court

A MAN has heard he could receive a prison sentence for engaging in illegal sexual online contact with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Stephen McCue, 59, pleaded guilty to one offence when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court.

McCue admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity. This occurred between June 5 and 10 this year, when it’s said he believed he was communicating with a girl aged 13.

Judge Julie Clemitson adjourned the case and asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by a probation officer.

McCue, of Mona Road, Salterbeck, Workington, is due to receive his punishment for the offence on January 17, and was granted conditional bail in the meantime.

Judge Clemitson told the defendant she was making “no promises” ahead of that hearing, adding: “You are at risk of a custodial sentence.”

As a result of his guilty plea, he was told he must now sign the sex offenders’ register.
